Men's Tennis Rolls over Hartwick, 9-0 in Conference Battle

ONEONTA, N.Y. (April 18, 2009) – Sophomores Arik Zeevy and Jason Ringstad posted their 11th doubles victory of the season as the pair assisted in lifting the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team to its 12th win of the year and sixth in Empire 8 play in a 9-0 sweep of Hartwick College Saturday afternoon in Oneonta, N.Y. Zeevy also tallied his 16th singles victory with a straight-set win (6-2, 6-2) over freshman Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, Mass.) at No. 1 singles. The Ducks are now 12-4 overall and 6-1 in league play, while the Hawks drop to 5-7 and 3-3 in conference action.

Zeevy and Ringstad defeated Boyd and freshman Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico), 8-1 at first doubles. At No. 2 doubles, the junior-senior combination of Piotr Rusinkiewicz and Kobe Attias overcame junior Matt Whitty (St. Catharines, Ontario) and freshman Peter Dumas (Albany, N.J.), 8-5. Stevens entered singles play ahead 3-0 as the tandem of sophomore Jay Lee and freshman Gregory Klose upended sophomores Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Michael del Rosario (Troy, N.Y.), 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

Ringstad notched his 11th singles win of the season with a 7-5, 6-4 victory against Navarro at second singles. Rusinkiewicz cruised by Whitty in a 6-0, 6-2 straight-set win at No. 3 singles, while Lee defeated Barr (6-2, 6-4) at fourth singles. Both players registered their 11th singles victory of the year. Klose clinched the match for the Ducks at sixth singles when he upended Rosario 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Carlo Pardo tallied his 11th singles victory of the season in a 6-1, 5-7, 11-9 victory at No. 5 singles over Dumans.

Stevens will return to action on Sunday when the Ducks square off against Utica College at 1 p.m. in Utica, N.Y. Tomorrow's match will conclude Empire 8 play for Stevens and will be the final regular-season match before the Ducks take on The College of New Jersey this Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Ewing, N.J.
