UTICA, N.Y. (April 19, 2009) – Sophomore Jason Ringstad tallied his 13th singles win of the season and team with sophomore Arik Zeevy at No. 1 doubles as the pair recorded their 12th victory of the year to help the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team claim its 13th win of the season and seventh in Empire 8 play with a 9-0 sweep of Utica College on Sunday afternoon in Utica, N.Y. The match concludes regular-season conference play as the Ducks sit second in the league with their 7-1 ledger. Stevens is now 13-4 on the year as Utica drops to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Zeevy and Ringstad cruised by the freshman-sophomore combination of Thien Doan (Vietnam, N.Y.) and Shaun Kaleta (Oriskany, N.Y.), 8-0 at first doubles. Senior Kobe Attias and junior Piotr Rusinkiewicz notched an 8-1 victory, for their 12th of the year at No. 2 doubles against freshman Gonzalo Salama (Madrid, Spain) and senior Gonzalo Carrascal (Madrid, Spain). Securing the sweep was the tandem of freshman Gregory Klose and sophomore with their 8-2 victory against senior Khoa Vo (Utica, N.Y.) and freshman Robert Cooney (Rome, N.Y.) at third doubles.
At No. 1 singles, Zeevy posted a flawless straight-set win over Vo for his 17th singles victory of the season, while Ringstad had a super tiebreaker win (2-6, 6-0, 10-5) against Kaleta at second singles. Rusinkiewicz upended Carrascal (6-1, 6-0) at No. 3 singles, as Lee dropped Doan, 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles. Attias recorded a flawless straight-set victory against Salama, while sophomore Carlo Pardo registered a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Cooney.
Stevens will return to the courts on Wednesday as the Ducks head to Ewing, N.J. to take on The College of New Jersey slatted for a 3 p.m. start.
