Men's Swimming Ties Merchant Marine, 147-147

KING'S POINT, N.Y. (January 29, 2010) – Despite giving the United States Merchant Marine Academy 32 points at the start for diving, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team earned a 147-147 tie on Saturday afternoon in King's Point, N.Y. Stevens won 10 events and was led by freshman John Hu who had three individual wins. Freshman Alex Benham also won a pair of events for the Ducks who are now 6-0-1 on the season.

Junior Dan Pecoraro, junior Matthew Preedy, freshman Daniel Munt, and sophomore Carl Nagle turned in a 1:38.80 in winning the 200-yard medley relay, and Benham carded a 10:09.28 in winning the 1000-yard freestyle. He was followed by sophomore Matthew Smith in second (10:16.91).

Preedy took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.83 and junior Evan Wilson (1:02.15) took second. Hu's first win came in the 200-yard butterfly as he touched at 1:54.33, and Nagle followed with a win in the 50-yard freestyle (22.24).

Hu won the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:55.08, and Wilson took the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:12.51. Benham's second win of the meet came in the 500-yard freestyle. He turned in a 4:52.04.

Munt took the 100-yard butterfly (54.00), and Hu's third and final win of the day came in the 200-yard individual medley (1:55.13).

The Ducks will return to action on Saturday with a dual-meet at SUNY New Paltz. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
