York, Pa. – The run of excellence continued for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team on Sunday, as the Ducks claimed their seventh straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championship.
Stevens closed the four-day meet with 1,623 points, winning the team title by nearly 200 points over host York College. The Spartans finished second with 1,424.5 points, followed by Misericordia in third with 969. Arcadia (835) and Widener (801.5) rounded out the top five.
Cooper Moffatt was named the MAC Rookie of the Year after recording one first-place finish, one second-place result, and two third-place performances during the championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Moffatt opened the final day in dominant fashion, capturing first place in the 1,650-freestyle with a time of 16:26.73, finishing more than 17 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Andrew Gaba added a podium finish in the mile, placing third in 16:53.43.
Ethan Emerton followed with a victory in the 200-backstroke, touching the wall in 1:51.28. After leading the preliminary round, Emerton held off the field by more than a second and a half in the finals.
Lukas Mikulenas continued his standout meet by winning the 200-breaststroke, marking his third first-place finish in four events. The senior posted a time of 2:06.82, while
James Johnson joined him on the podium with a third-place finish in 2:10.23. The Ducks wrapped up the championship with a second-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay. The quartet of
Sebastien Nappi,
Leo Timmermann,
Deo Bove, and
Will Stibor combined for a time of 3:09.89.
Stibor also added a second-place result in the 100-freestyle, clocking in at 46.15.
Niall Easton placed sixth in 48.30, while Timmermann followed closely in seventh at 48.34. In the 1,650-freestyle,
Yusuf Tokuz (17:18.10) and
Kyle Phillips (17:21.83) both recorded top-10 finishes. Nappi placed sixth in the 200-backstroke with a time of 1:57.28,
Jason Scheckner earned fifth in the 200-breaststroke, and Bove rounded out the Ducks' scoring efforts with a 10th-place finish in the 200-back.
