ELMIRA, N.Y. (October 9, 2010) – Junior captain Mallory Swanson scored two goals as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team downed host Elmira College, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon in Elmira, N.Y. The Ducks, now winners of three-straight games, improve to 3-1 in the Empire 8 and 5-7 overall.

Nikish tallied the game's first goal after an assist from senior captain Lauren Griggs on a play that began with a penalty corner. After Elmira tied the game at one, Swanson tallied her first of the game thanks to a helper from freshman Rachel Chavez.

In the second half, freshman Caitlin Chamberlain tallied her fourth of the year to put the Ducks up 3-1 on a breakaway. Elmira made it a 3-2 game but Swanson found the back of the net after a penalty corner for the final margin with less than a minute to play. It was her team-high fifth goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Ellyn Griggs made six saves and earned the win in goal for Stevens. The Ducks ended with a 25-9 edge in goals and took 17 penalty corners compared to six for the Soaring Eagles (0-10 overall).

Stevens will return to the pitch on October 13 at 5 p.m. with a game against in-state rival William Paterson University. All the action will be webcast live at www.PennAtlantic.com.
