Zeevy Leads Men's Tennis To A Pair Of Victories Over Babson and Springfield

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 15, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team improved its dual-match record to 3-1 on the young season after earning a pair of decisive victories to open its annual spring trip to Orlando, Fl. The Ducks first swept Babson College, 9-0, before scoring an 8-1 victory over Springfield College. Stevens returns to the court on Wednesday, March 17 against Connecticut College.

Junior Arik Zeevy went 2-0, scoring a decisive, 6-1, 6-2 victory in second-flight singles and a 7-6 win in No. 1 doubles to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team to a 9-0 sweep of Babson College to open play at its annual spring trip to Orlando, Fla. The Ducks, now 2-1 on the season, will face Springfield College later this evening.

Freshman Shota Tasaki captured a hard-fought, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4), win over junior Justin Albert (Newton, Mass.) in top-flight singles action, while fellow freshman Chris Rosensteel continued to impress with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over senior Ken Lin (Cavendish Heights, Hong Kong) in third-flight singles.

Stevens junior Jason Ringstad scored a 6-4, 6-1, win over senior Brian Lafayette (Burlington, Vt.) in fourth-flight singles, while junior Jay Lee  and senior Piotr Rusinkiewicz rounded out singles play with victories over their Beaver counterparts in fifth and sixth-flight singles, respectively.

Zeevy and Rosensteel downed Lafayette and senior Alex Kamergorodsky (Millis, Mass.), 7-6, in No.1 doubles, while Rusinkiewicz and Tasaki defeated Albert and senior Moises Numa (Talahassee, Fla.), 8-1 in No. 2 doubles. Ringstad and sophomore Gregory Klose bested junior Austin Conti (Murray Hill, N.J.) and sophomore Taylor Dutton (Portland, Ore.), 8-3, in No. 3 doubles to compete the Stevens sweep.

Zeevy again paved the way for the Ducks scoring a 6-1, 6-2 victory in top-flight singles. Rosensteel also continued his strong play with a 6-0, 6-2 second-flight singles win over senior Tim Tunis (Sudbury, Mass.), while Lee earned a 6-0, 7-5 victory in third-flight singles.

Rusinkiewicz defeated sophomore Zach O'Leary (Westboro, Mass.) 6-4, 6-1 in fourth-flight singles, while Stevens freshman Derek Smith notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory over junior Doug Nickerson (Falmouth, Maine) in sixth-flight singles. Pride junior Eric Henne (Bristol, Conn.) captured Springfield's lone victory of the day with a 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 triumph in fifth-flight singles.

Zeevy and Rosensteel headed up the Ducks' doubles pairings with an 8-3 win in No.1 doubles, while Rusinkiewicz and Tasaki scored an 8-1 victory in No. 2 doubles. Klose and Ringstad closed out doubles action with an 8-4, third-slot win.
