Tasaki, Zeevy Key Men's Tennis' Sweep Of Hartwick

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 17, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team scored its 13th victory of the season with a 9-0 sweep of Empire 8 rival Hartwick College at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks, ranked 10th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Northeast Region rankings, are now 13-2 on the season with a 4-1 league ledger. The Hawks fell to 4-5 on the year and 2-3 in conference play with the loss.

Stevens junior Jason Ringstad kicked things off with a 6-2, 6-0 No. 4 singles victory over junior Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.) before freshman Chris Rosensteel ousted sophomore Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico), 6-3, 6-0, in No. 2 singles. Junior Arik Zeevy then bested Hartwick's Peter Dumas (Albany, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-0, in No. 3 singles before freshman Derek Smith earned a 6-3, 6-3, No. 6 singles win over Mike del Rosario (Troy, N.Y.).

Ducks' junior Gregory Klose secured a 6-1, 6-4, No. 5 singles victory over senior Matt Whitty (St. Catherines, Ont.), with freshman Shota Tasaki outlasting sophomore Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, Mass.), 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-2) in No. 1 singles.

Zeevy and Tasaki opened up doubles action with a decisive 8-0 win in the top slot, while Klose and Ringstad defeated Navarro and Whitty, 8-1, in second-flight doubles. Junior Carlo Pardo paired with Smith for a 9-7 third-flight doubles triumph over Barr and Del Rosario.

Stevens returns to action on Sunday, April 18 against Utica College. In the event of rain, tomorrow's match, originally scheduled for 12 p.m. on the Stevens Tennis Courts, will be moved to 4 p.m. at the Twin Oaks Tennis Club in Morristown, N.J.
