Men's Tennis Captures Tenth-Straight Victory Downing Alfred

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 3, 2010) – Freshman Shota Tasaki  scored a pair of wins in top-flight singles and doubles as the Stevens Institute of Technology captured its 10th-straight victory with an 8-1 triumph over Empire 8 rival Alfred University at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks are now 10-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, while the Saxons fell to 1-2 on the year with a 0-1 league ledger.

Senior Piotr Rusinkiewicz and freshman Derek Smith got things started for Stevens with an 8-3 victory in third-flight doubles before junior Jay Lee and sophomore Gregory Klose put the Ducks up two with an 8-4 win in second-flight doubles. Junior Jason Ringstad and Tasaki wrapped up doubles action, downing juniors Connor Houghton (Orleans, Mass.) and Nick Schneider (Liverpool, N.Y.), 8-2 in top-flight doubles.

Freshman Chris Rosensteel and Rusinkiewicz led off singles action with a pair of 6-1, 6-2, victories in No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, before Tasaki bested Houghton, 6-1, 6-4, in No. 1 singles to give Stevens a 5-0 lead. Junior Carlo Pardo then notched a 6-1, 6-4, triumph in No. 6 singles over sophomore Kyle McDevitt (Underhill, Vt.), before junior Arik Zeevy ousted Schneider, 6-1, 7-5, in No. 2 singles. Freshman Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, N.J.) scored the Saxons lone win with a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (12-10) victory in No. 5 singles.

Stevens returns to action on Saturday, April 10 against league rivals Ithaca College and Elmira College.
