Kingman Keys Women's Tennis' Victory Over Drew

MADISON, N.J. (September 15, 2010) – Led by senior Allyson Kingman, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team scored their fourth win of the season with an 8-1 victory over Drew University in Madison, N.J. With the win, the Ducks move to 4-1 on the season, while the Rangers fell to 0-1 on the year.

Kingman and junior Nicole Portner  got things started with an 8-0 first doubles triumph over sophomore Vivian Peng (Piscataway, N.J.) and Sophia Chen. Senior Kendra Appleheimer and freshman Lisa Tessitore gave Stevens a 2-0 edge with an 8-4 second doubles win over senior Sarit Ashenazi (Haifa, Israel) and Christiane Thoma (Mexico), while the Ducks' Morgan Scalzi and Mine Bese cruised to an 8-1 win in the third slot to clinch the doubles sweep.

Bese then downed junior Rebecca Olderman (Cheshire, Conn.) 6-1, 6-1, in No. 5 singles, before sophomore Alexandra Handel scored a 6-1, 6-3, win over Drew's Erica Fredrickson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in No. 6 singles to clinch the Ducks' victory. Appleheimer bested Thoma 6-0, 6-0, in the third spot just before Peng clipped Tessitore in No. 1 singles for the Rangers' lone win.

Stevens opens up conference play on September 18-19 against Empire 8 rivals Alfred University and St. John Fisher College.
