Tessitore Sparks Women's Tennis Duck Country Win Over Richard Stockton

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 29, 2010) – Freshman Lisa Tessitore (captured a both a No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles victory as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team defeated Richard Stockton College, 7-2, in its annual Duck Country event at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. With the win, the Ducks, winners of six-consecutive dual matches, moved to 7-1 on the year, while the visiting Ospreys fell to 2-4 on the season.

Stockton sophomore Kristianne Fernandez (Northfield, N.J.) and freshman Krystle Bendijo (Egg Harbor, N.J.) notched a first doubles victory over Stevens' Allyson Kingman and Nicole Portner, 8-5, while Ducks' senior Kendra Appleheimer and Tessitore bested junior Brittany Hall (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and senior Christina Ledwith (Ambler, Pa.), 8-6, in second doubles. Stevens' Mine Bese and Morgan Scalzi rounded out doubles play with an 8-1 win in the third slot.

Fernandez headed up the Ospreys' singles corps with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-2, top-slot victory over Kingman, while Tessitore scored a 7-5, 6-1, triumph over Bendijo at No. 2 singles. Portner defeated Hall, 6-2, 6-0, in third singles, while Appleheimer and Bese each scored a 6-0, 6-0, sweep of their Stockton counterparts at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Stevens' Alexandra Handel wrapped up singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over senior Nicole Rodriguez (North Bergen, N.J.) in No. 6 singles.

The Ducks return to action on Saturday October 2 against Empire 8 rival Utica College.
