Wrestling Splits A Pair Of Matches With Bridgewater State And No. 23 Delaware Vally At Stevens Tri-Match

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 15, 2011) – Sophomore Ryan Dormann extended his unbeaten streak to 17 bouts, picking up a pair of victories at the Stevens Tri-Match held in Walker Gymnasium in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks began the day with a hard-fought 21-20 victory over Bridgewater State University before closing out the afternoon with a tough, 25-18, loss to No. 23 Delaware Valley College. The 23rd-ranked Aggies defeated the Bears, 28-12, in the day's other match.

The Bears' Francis opened the match with a 12-4 major decision over Ling at 125-lbs., before Boehm helped the Ducks regain the lead, pinning Palmer just 44 seconds into their 133-lb. bout. Off the strength of a first-period takedown, Curtiss would hang on to a 2-1 triumph over Joubert at 141-lbs, giving Stevens a 9-4 match edge.

Caserta upped the margin to 12-4 with a 4-1, 149-lb. decision over Fields, but Ciaccio sliced into the deficit with a win by fall over Browne 59 seconds into the third period. Raymond then put Bridgewater on top with a decisive12-4 major decision over Holden at 165-lbs., but Leo Dormann responded by pinning Deary in the first period of their 174-lb. bout, helping Stevens regain the lead, 18-14.

Ryan Dormann then sealed the Ducks' win, scoring takedowns in the first and second periods en route to a 6-1 decision over Aiken at 184-lbs.

Francis scored a 7-3 decision over Frankel at 125-lbs. to give Bridgewater an early 3-0 edge, but Haynes quickly put the Aggies back on top, pinning Palmer in the first period of their 133-lb. bout. Ulrich then earned a major decision at 141-lbs. to put Del Val up 10-3 before Andrews pinned Fields at 149 to extend the margin to 13.

Harrington kept things rolling for the Aggies with a 16-8 major decision over Ciaccio before Raymond finally notched a win for the bears with a 6-3 decision over Fava at 165-lbs. Deary and Aiken would score victories for Bridgewater at 174 and 184 pounds, but Del Val would notch major decisions in the final two weight classes en route to a 28-12 match victory.

Hoping to get off to a quick start, Ling put Stevens on the board early, pinning Frankel just 1:41 into their 125-lb. bout. Haynes responded with a close 3-2 decision over Boehm at 133-lbs., before Ulrich scored a 10-2 major decision over Curtiss at 141.

Del Val extended their lead with Andrews' 10-5 decision over Caserta at 149-lbs., before Harrington notched a 3-1 win over Leo Dormann to make it 13-6 Aggies. Browne the notched a forfeit win at 165-lbs. to help Stevens pull within one at 13-12.

Needing a victory to keep pace, Ryan Dormann gave the Ducks just that, pinning Vega with just over 10 seconds remaining in the final period to stake Stevens to a 18-13 edge. Phillips counted with a close, 5-3, decision over Nowakoski to bring Del Val within three before Karns tallied a 6-1 win over Termini at 197-lbs. to help the Aggies regain the edge. With the Ducks needing a win to pull it out, Gardner shut the door, pinning Schmalz in the first period of their heavyweight match-up to secure the Del Val triumph.
