Behind Caserta Wrestling Scores Wins Over Washington & Lee And McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. (January 22, 2011) - Seven wrestlers notched 2-0 marks on the afternoon, while freshman C.J. Caserta recorded a pair of wins by fall as the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team opened up Centennial Conference play with a pair of victories over Washington & Lee University and McDaniel College. The Ducks began the day with a 49-3 victory over the Generals before cruising to a 37-9 triumph over the Green Terror. With the victories Stevens moved to 9-7-1 overall in dual matches with a 2-0 league ledger.

Stevens freshmen Brandon Ling and Andrew Boehm began the day with a pair of wins by forfeit at 125 and 133, respectively, before the Ducks' Ryan Bridge put Stevens up 16-0 with a 13-5 major decision over Eric Fessel.

CJ Caserta then notched his first pin of the day, stopping Brian Ross 36 seconds into the second period in their 149-pound bout before Leo Dormann earned a 6-1 decision over Keith Jaworski at 157. David Dennis recorded the Generals lone win with a 5-0 decision at 165, but Ryan Dormann quickly put the Ducks back on top, pinning Daniel Igel at the 4:18 mark.

Jason Nowakoski, Vincent Termini, and Joseph Lombardo closed out the match with forfeit victories at 184, 197, and 285-lbs., respectively.

Ling once again got Stevens off to a fast start with an 8-5 decision over PJ Farinella at 125-lbs. before Tom Goretsas knotted the match at three with a 9-2 decision over Boehm.

Bridge then notched his second victory of the day with a hard-fought 5-3 decision over Trancredi before Caserta pinned Tim Hall just 42 seconds into their 149-lb. bout. Leo Dormann continued the Ducks' momentum, pinning Logan Yox at the 55 second mark of their 157-lb. match-up, before William Sharkey pinned Matt Peters in the first period of their 165-lb. bout.

Ryan Dormann kept things rolling with a decisive 11-3 major decision over Chris Urps before Jason Nowakoski pinned Scott Forrester at 2:57 of a 184-lb. showdown.

Termini then scored a 4-3 decision over Will Yeo before Brock Glotfelty earned a win by forfeit in the heavyweight class.
