DURHAM, N.H. (January 30, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team went 3-0 on Sunday against Mt. Holyoke College, Colby-Sawyer College and host University of New Hampshire as the Ducks raised their season record to 14-3. Four Ducks posted undefeated records on a day where the squad lost only a total of 10 bouts in three matches.
Junior foilist Alexis Clyburn went 9-0 to spearhead the Ducks' attack. She was flanked by sophomore Krystal Perkins (7-0) and freshman Sienna Batzli (6-0) in epee and sophomore Juliet Turalski (7-0) in sabre. Batzli has not lost in the last two weekend tournaments, posting a 15-0 record in that span.
Juniors Ann Destefano and Alexandra Lyons also had fine records at foil, with both members of the Class of 2012 posting identical 8-1 records.
Senior Stephanie Spelman and freshman Emily Brandsdorfer also had only one loss apiece, with Spelman finishing with seven foil wins and Brandsdorfer with five victories at sabre.
Also at sabre, junior Krista Sticco had a great day at 7-2.
The Ducks will have a week off before beginning a three-week-long homestand on February 13, when they host seven schools in Canavan Arena, beginning at 10 a.m.
