Termini Wins Three At North/South Duals

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (January 8, 2011) – Seniors Vincent Termini and Leo Dormann and sophomore Ryan Dormann each won three matches on the day as the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team went 1-2-1 at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. The Ducks opened the day with a hard-fought 19-18 loss to No. 19 Messiah College, before scoring a decisive 31-9 triumph over Morrisville State College. Stevens then fought SUNY Oneonta to an 18-18 draw before dropping its final match of the afternoon to Wesleyan University, 18-15.

Messiah's Lethbridge defeated Ling 6-0 at 125 lbs. before Coblentz earned a 9-0 major decision over Neugebauer at 133. Curtiss put Stevens on the board with a 6-0 decision over Josh Bressler to make it a 7-3 match. Hardenberg then ousted Caserta 7-5 in a close match before Browne upended Mike Bressler 4-2.

Leo Dormann then scored a 5-3 decision over Okerblom before Ryan Dormann pinned Plummer at 6:53 to give the Ducks their first lead of the match. Stewart answered, pinning Nowakoski to put Messiah back on top before Termini earned a 4-2 decision over Hopkins to make it 18-16 Stevens. With the match on the line, Hogan scored a 5-0 decision over Schmalz at 285-lbs. to seal Messiah's 19-18 win.

Delmonte opened the match with a 6-4 victory over Ling at 125-lbs. but Morrisville would forfeit the next two weights to give Stevens a 12-3 advantage. Caserta kept things rolling for the Ducks with a 15-5 decision over Josh Lear before Browne pinned Spencer Brady at 4:08 to put Stevens ahead 22-3. Holden then scored a 7-1 decision over Tony Vordan at 165-lbs. before Sharkey extended the Ducks' lead with a tight 1-0 win over Nate Cross at 174.

Brunsmien ended Morrisville's dryspell with a 3-2 decision over Nowakoski before Termini earned a 7-5 decision over Josue Cardens. Tod Hall ended the match with a 6-4 decision over Stevens' Lombardo.

Ling opened the match by pinning Chris Borgignon at 125-lbs. before Ben Mikac scored a decision over Boehm to make it 6-3. Curtiss then pinned Cabbio to extend the Ducks' lead, but Graff came right back at 149-lbs. with a decision over Caserta.

Sala then scored a decision over Browne to cut the Stevens lead to 12-9 before Leo Dormann and Ryan Dormann earned wins at 165 and 174-lbs. respectively to put Stevens up by nine. Jake Smith then scored a decision over Nowakoski before Wignall defeated Termini at 197. Needing a decision to knot the match, Oneonta got just that in the heavyweight bout with Lamonica scoring a decision over Schmalz.

Alvanos opened things up with a 5-2 decision over Ling at 125-lbs., before Nagata downed Boehm 7-2. Scotto made it three in a row with a 3-2 decision over Curtiss before Caserta put the Ducks on the board with an 8-5 decision over Tobochnik. Browne followed it up with a 6-5 decision over Sampson before Leo Dormann had a 5-0 shutout of Oddo.

Ryan Dormann then scored a 14-7 win over Roosa to put Stevens on top 12-9, but Ajaya won his 184-lb. bout with Nowakoski, 4-0. Termini answered with a 3-2 decision over Amrhein at 197-lbs., but Conroy wrapped up the Wesleyan victory by pinning Schmalz in the heavyweight match.
