Men's Tennis Match With Pomona Canceled, Ducks Close Out West Coast Tour With 6-3 Win Over Occidental

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 18, 2011) – Buoyed by a doubles sweep and victories in first through third singles, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team closed out its spring break trip to California with a 6-3 triumph over Occidental College on Thursday afternoon. The Ducks improved to 2-3 overall on the season with yesterday's win, while the Tigers dropped to 4-9 on the year. Today's match with Pomona College has been canceled.

Stevens' top doubles pairing of Chris Rosensteel and Shota Tasaki got the Ducks off to a good start with an 8-2 victory over sophomores Spencer Choy (Aiea, Hawaii) and Stephen Perkins (Seattle, Wash.), while the Ducks' Arik Zeevy and Lopburi Sasinin picked up an 8-1 win over David Cotton (Anchorage, Alaska) and Stefan Pastor (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.). Stevens' Gregory Klose and Carlo Pardo completed the doubles sweep with a hard-fought 8-6 triumph over Jordan Brown (Long Beach, Calif.) and Kevin Siebs (Houston, Texas).

Rosensteel headlined the Ducks' singles lineup with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win over freshman Jeremy Shapiro (Scottsdale, Ariz.), while Zeevy bested Pastor 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the second slot. Tasaki helped secure Stevens' second win of the season with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at third singles.

The Ducks return to action on March 26 against Skidmore College.
