Men's Tennis Win Streak Stopped at Six By Vassar

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 27, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team, ranked 12th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, had its six-match winning streak snapped by 11th-ranked Vassar College on Wednesday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks won 2-of-3 doubles matches and received a win at No. 4 singles from senior Jason Ringstad but it was not enough as Vassar won by a 6-3 final.

The Ducks jumped out to an early 2-1 lead courtesy of wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Sophomores Chris Rosensteel and Shota Tasaki downed junior Ben Guzick (Rochester, N.Y.) and senior Joshua Jasso (Olmito, Texas), 9-7, while senior Arik Zeevy and Ringstad downed sophomore Andrew Guzick (Olmito, Texas) and senior Max Willner (Bronx, N.Y.), 8-5.

Vassar's first win of the afternoon came from sophomore Josh Kessler (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and sophomore Dan Freeman (Big Flats, N.Y.). The duo ousted senior Jay Lee and freshman Lopburi Sasinin, 8-3, at No. 3 singles.

Vassar took five of the six singles matches with Stevens' only win coming from Ringstad at No. 4 singles. The captain defeated Freeman, 6-4, 6-4. Rosensteel fell to Andrew Guzick in a tight match, 6-4, 7-5, while Zeevy was defeated by Ben Guzick, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. Tasaki fell by the same count to Willner at third singles, and Sasinin was defeated by Jasso, 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth slot. The Brewers' final win of the day came from Kessler who defeated Lee, 6-2, 6-3.

Stevens will look to get back to its winning ways on Saturday when it hosts Elmira College at 12 p.m. On Sunday, the Ducks will wrap-up regular-season play with a match against rival Ithaca College in Hoboken.
