EWING, N.J. (September 14, 2011) – Junior Zach Adler had a hand in each goal of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team's wild 3-2 win over the College of New Jersey (3-2) on Wednesday night. Adler scored what proved to be the game-winner at 84:59 and also assisted on the first two Duck goals of the evening turned in by Ernesto Solis and Victor Daza as Stevens earned its third win of the year.

Stevens controlled the play for most of the game after holding the Lions to two shots in the first half. Just seven minutes after play began, Adler hit Solis with a cross from the left side and the sophomore headed the ball inside the post for his first score of the season.

The Ducks outshot the Lions in the first half 5-2, and the fouls were a lopsided 10-1 against the hosts after the first 45 minutes.

Things seemed to tighten up after the break, with the teams trading shots for 20 minutes before Victor Daza received his set-up pass from Adler. Daza proceeded to weave through two defenders on the right side and nail a laser into the net to double the Ducks' advantage to 2-0.

The Ducks continued to hold a comfortable 2-0 lead through the 80th minute, but at that point TCNJ made things tight. With less than six minutes on the clock, Kevin McCartney (Old Bridge, N.J.) got off a pass that sprung Kevin Shaw (Brookside, N.J.) through the defense on the right side for a goal, making the score 2-1.

With the Lions now desperate for the equalizer, Adler took advantage off of the restart and 50 seconds later found himself on a breakaway. The McKinney, Texas native curled the ball over the keeper and into the left pocket of the net from 15 yards out to give the Ducks a 3-1 lead.

TCNJ continued to press the issue after the Adler score - and earned a goal doing it - as Shaw set up Ed Kozic (Raritan, N.J.) for a strike at 86:27 that made the contest a one-goal affair again.

Neither team would get off another shot after that point, though TCNJ gave the Ducks a mighty scare when they put what would have been the tying goal in the back of the net in the final seconds. It was waved off due to a penalty, however, as Stevens earned a hard-fought win in its first action away from Castle Point this year.

The Ducks held a 12-9 advantage in shots, while TCNJ attempted one more corner kick than the visitors. Sophomore Paul Killian played all 90 minutes for Stevens to earn his third win of the year.

Stevens will hit the road again for its next game, travelling to Manhattanville College on Saturday, September 17. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and be webcast on http://www.govaliants.tv/.
