HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 14, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team dominated Drew University to the tune of 9-0 Wednesday on their home courts. With the victory, the Ducks (3-0) have won 24 of 27 possible head-to-head pairings in their dual matches to start the season.

The most intriguing match of the day was early on at second doubles, where Nicole Portner and Mine Bese stormed back from a 7-1 deficit  and reeled off eight-straight games against Sarit Ashkenazi (Haifa, Israel) and Sofia Madrigal (San Jose, Costa Rica) to win the 9-7 decision.

Jessica Bourque and Lisa Tessitore were also tested at first doubles, but prevailed with the same 9-7 score. Morgan Scalzi and Danielle Stewart took care of business at third doubles, winning 8-1.

Tessitore went on to dispatch her opponent at fifth singles 6-1, 6-1 before Bese clinched the Stevens win with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory. Stewart (third), Bourque (first), Portner (second) and Alexandra Handel (sixth) also were victorious on Wednesday at singles.

Portner's match was especially competitive with Zoe Childs (Madison, N.J.), requiring extra points in the tiebreaker before it was settled. Portner finally scored the winner in the gathering darkness to seal the Stevens sweep.

The Ducks will hit the road for and Empire 8 Conference weekend coming up, where they will travel to Alfred University on Saturday and St. John Fisher on Sunday. Full results will be available at StevensDucks.com.
