HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 17, 2012) – Just before its Tuesday game with Rutgers-Newark, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team found itself ranked No. 7 in the nation as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its weekly poll. The Ducks were also ranked No. 7 to start the season.
Perhaps more importantly, the team is currently ranked first in the NCAA East Region, a key factor in deciding seeding and game locations in the NCAA Men's Soccer Division III Championship.
After a 2-2 start, Stevens dropped out of the national poll. However, the team's current 11-game winning streak has propelled it back into its original place in the standings. The team is also ranked No. 16 in the latest D3Soccer.com poll.
Not including their statistics from Tuesday, the Ducks are now 15th in the nation in scoring defense (0.57 goals-against per game) and 46th in scoring offense (2.57 goals per game). They also boast the 24th-best record in the country with a .846 winning percentage.
Senior
Victor Daza (North Plainfield, N.J.) and junior
Paul Killian (Ellicott City, Md.) continue to be ranked among the national leaders individually as well. Daza is among the top-50 individuals in points, assists and assists per game and in the top-100 in points per game and goals.
Killian is eighth in save percentage (.880) and 14th in goals-against average (0.458).
The Ducks will be back in action on Saturday against St. John Fisher College. The high noon showdown will decide the Empire 8 regular season championship and which team earns the No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 Tournament.
