HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 6, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team had little trouble with Utica College on Saturday, sweeping the Pioneers 9-0 in Hoboken. The Ducks won 96 of 99 games on the day, with four players posting unblemished records.
Each doubles match was over quickly and ended with an 8-0 Stevens sweep. At singles,
Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.),
Julia Guignard (Lowville, N.Y.),
Lexie Handel (Sparta, N.J.) and
Nathalie Tran (Livingston, N.J.) each enjoyed 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at third through sixth singles, respectively.
Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) and
Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) also swept one set each at ones and twos to clinch the clean sheet for the Ducks.
With Saturday's victory the Castle Pointers guaranteed themselves a spot in the Empire 8 Championship.
Stevens will return to the courts in Hoboken on Sunday for the final match of the regular season; an Empire 8 tangle with Hartwick College at noon.
