Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, Texas) notched the first shutout of her career as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team improved to 5-0 in the Empire 8 with a 2-0 win at St. John Fisher College Sunday.
Stevens (8-5, 5-0 Empire 8) dominated from start-to-finish, outshooting St. John Fisher (5-8, 3-3 Empire 8) 15-1 in the first half and 24-5 for the game. The Ducks also had a 24-2 margin in penalty corners including a 14-0 edge in the first half.
McClymont made four saves in the first shutout of the Ducks' season, while her counterpart, freshman
Danielle Famolaro (Rome, N.Y.), did all she could to keep the hosts in the game with 12 saves.
The Ducks did all their scoring before six minutes had passed. Chavez scored her team-high 12th thanks to an assist from senior forward
Mary Nikish (Pittsford, N.Y.) just 3:29 into the game. Nikish, who was playing in her hometown, now has a league-high 12 assists this season.
Then, 2:11 later, Fiebel tallied for the third time in the last two games, knocking in a loose ball in front for her fifth goal of the season.
Stevens remains on top of the Empire 8 standings, leading Hartwick College (4-1) by one game. Washington & Jefferson College is in third at 3-2 and Fisher is in fourth place.
The Ducks will host Hartwick on Saturday, October 13 at 10:30 a.m. as part of Homecoming 2012. Prior to that matchup, the Ducks will welcome William Paterson University to the De Baun Athletic Complex on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Both contests can be seen live at
