NEW YORK, N.Y. (December 7, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team dropped a back and forth battle with New York  University Friday night, 20-13. Stevens led, 13-9, after the 174-lb. class but dropped the final three bouts of the match, which proved to be the deciding factor.

After the Ducks trailed, 3-0, through the first bout, freshman Ryan Wilson (McVeytown, Pa.) evened the score with a 10-9 decision victory over Corbin Lee in the 133-lb. matchup. The Violets went back up, 6-3, at 141, before senior Ryan Owens (Fallston, Md.) scored a 5-2 decision win at 149.

At 157, freshman Leo Wortman (Bellefonte, Pa.) ended up on the short end of a 3-1 decision, but fellow freshman Kalen Gans (Palo Alto, Calif.) leveled the match at 9-9 with his own decision win over John Fitzsimmons.

Senior Joey Favia (Brick, N.J.) moved up a weight class and picked up four crucial points at 174 with a 14-3 major decision over Chris Amro, but that was the last victory the Ducks scored in the match.

NYU scored the final 11 points of the showdown with two decision victories and one technical fall which resulted in the final score of 20-13.

Stevens will be back in action after the winter break on January 11 and 12 when the Ducks travel to Hampton, Va. for the Virginia Duals for the two-day event.
