Stevens' Grapplers Fall at Lycoming, 31-9

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (February 8, 2012) – On Wednesday evening, February 8, the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team fell to the hosts from Lycoming College, 31-9, in Williamsport, Pa. The Ducks spotted Lycoming 12 points after the first two bouts and could not make up the difference through the rest of the match. Stevens is now 10-7 on the season.

Stevens first recorded points in the 141-lb class as freshman Mike Polizzi (Montville, N.J.) won by decision over Caleb Willey, 4-0, to cut the Warriors' lead to 12-3.

Lycoming would win the next two bouts at 149 and 157, to build its lead to 18-6, before junior Joey Favia (Brick, N.J.) tallied three more points for the Ducks with a 4-0 decision victory over Greg Wetzel.

At 174, Stevens remained victorious with an 11-4 win by sophomore James Holden (Staten Island, N.Y.) against Nikolas Christine.

In the final three bouts, the Warriors would tally fall and major decisions victories to put the match away and eventually win, 31-9.

The Ducks are on this road this weekend when they travel to Baltimore for a Centennial Conference tri-match against Johns Hopkins University and Gettysburg College on February 12 for a noon start.
