Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 31, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team recorded nine hits, but fell to No. 20 Ithaca College, 5-1, on March 31 at Dobbelaar Field in both team's Empire 8 Conference opener. The Ducks trailed, 2-1, entering the sixth inning, but Ithaca scored one in the sixth and plated two more in the seventh to take the game and drop Stevens to 13-8, 0-1 this season.

Sophomore outfielder Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) led the Ducks at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning. Allen raised his average up to .368 with the three-hit effort.

Also with three hits on the afternoon, freshman outfielder Brian Hennelly (Holbrook, N.Y.) stroked a double in four at bats and is now batting .481 on the season to pace Stevens at the plate. Senior designated hitter TJ Alcorn (Turnersville, N.J.) picked up a double in four at bats, while graduate student infielder Matt Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and sophomore catcher Curt Lowenstein (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) each recorded a hit in the loss.

Senior infielder Tom Phillips (Spring Lake, N.J.) did not earn a hit in five trips to the plate, but walked and stole a bag to give him 21 on the season and 68 for his career. Phillips now sits alone in second in career swipes and is only six away from becoming the program's all-time leader.

On the mound for Stevens, sophomore Gary Boardman (Staten Island, N.Y.) suffered the loss in 5.2 innings pitched. Boardman allowed eight hits and three earned runs, two coming on solo shots by Ithaca's Tim LoCastro, and struck out three batters while walking just one.

Freshman John Howarth (Fanwood, N.J.) relieved Boardman and went 2.1 innings and gave up three hits and two unearned runs with a strikeout. Senior John Martelle (Colonia, N.J.) threw a perfect ninth inning in his 10th appearance of the season.

Stevens left 10 runners on base in the contest, including seven stranded in scoring position. In the third, Stevens had runners on second and third, but Ithaca's catcher picked off the Ducks' lead runner to end the inning. In the seventh, Stevens loaded the bases with two outs but could not bring a run home.

The Ducks and Bombers will square off tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
