HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 1, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team overwhelmed Alfred University on Sunday morning, winning 9-0 to move to 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference. The Ducks dropped just one of 25 doubles games to get the match started against the Saxons.
For the second-straight day Andrew Riggs (Auburn, Calif.) won at third singles in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Riggs paired with Nick Rosasco (Alpine, N.J.) to win 8-1 at second doubles as well.
The other Duck doubles teams did not lose even a single game, sweeping 8-0 at both firsts and thirds. Chris Rosensteel (East Windsor, N.J.) and Shota Tasaki (Greenwich, Conn.) earned the victory at ones while Derek Smith (Boise, Idaho) and Daniel Szwarc (Metuchen N.J.) won at threes.
Smith swept his singles matchup as well, taking the matchup at sixes 6-0, 6-0.
Also in singles, Rosensteel (first / 6-2, 6-1) Tasaki (second / 7-6 (3), 6-2), Rosasco (fourth / 6-0, 6-1) and Szwarc (fifth / (6-0, 6-4) each won their matchup as well.
Stevens will play again in the program's Duck Country event on Wednesday. The Duck will host New York University in a match starting at 3:30 p.m.
