Men's Tennis Perfect for Second-Straight Day

MORRISTON, N.J. (April 22, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team soundly defeated Hartwick College 9-0 on Sunday. With the win, Stevens completes its second-straight unbeaten Empire 8 regular season. The Ducks have not lost a conference match since April 10, 2010; a narrow 5-4 loss to Ithaca College. Stevens will be the top seed at the Empire 8 Championships on May 5 & 6 in Rochester.

Stevens got off to a strong start at doubles. The Ducks twos and threes pairs had little trouble, wining 8-3 and 8-2 respectively. Chris Rosensteel (East Windsor, N.J.) and Shota Tasaki (Greenwich, Conn.) were challenged at first doubles but were able to win 8-6.

In singles, Tasaki led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at thirds. Derek Smith (Boise, Idaho) gave up just one game at fours, Andrew Riggs (Auburn, Calif.) lost just two at second singles and Daniel Szwarc (Metuchen, N.J.) enjoyed a 6-1, 6-2 win. Rosensteel and Brian Liebeskind (Basking Ridge, N.J.) also won relatively tight singles matchups.

The Ducks will have their final matchup of the regular season on Wednesday when they will travel to the College of New Jersey for a 3:30 start.
