Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 13, 2012) – In a 2-hour 49-minute 11-inning contest between the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team and FDU-Florham in the ECAC Metro Championship, the Devils came away with a 2-1 victory to claim the 2012 crown. Stevens had opportunities in the bottom of the 9th and 11th innings to plate a run but hit into inning-ending double plays in both chances. The Ducks finish their season with a 24-18 record, 10 more wins than 2011.

Stevens trailed after the top of the fourth, 1-0, on a solo homerun off junior Kevin Mathews (Jackson, N.J.). The Ducks, however, answered back with a solo blast from sophomore Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game at 1 apiece.

Mathews tossed nine innings for the no decision and scatted eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Allen went 1-for-5 on the day.

Graduate student Matt Glassman (Basking Ridge, N.J.), juniors Tyler Courter (Glenwood, N.J.) and Michael Donovan (Mendham, N.J.) and sophomore Shane Raymond (Easton, Pa.) all singled in the contest. Glassman also walked once in four at bats.

Seniors Tom Phillips (Spring Lake, N.J.) and TJ Alcorn (Turnersville, N.J.) reached back on hit by pitches to account for all the runners in the game for the Ducks.

Freshman Peirce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.) was dealt the loss in two innings of work out of the bullpen. Marston surrendered three hits and punched out two batters while issuing one free pass.

FDU plated the winning run after a one-out double and a two-out walk put runners on first and third. After the walk, a single through the left side drove in the game-winning run for the Devils.

FDU's Mike Winters was named the Most Valuable Player after throwing three innings of hitless relief with two strikeouts.

Stevens went down in order in six of the 11 trips to the plate and only put nine runners on base for the entire game.
