HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 16, 2012) – It was a perfect home-opening weekend for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team, as the Ducks topped Alfred University 9-0 on Sunday to complete an 18-0 Empire 8 slate over the past two days. Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) and Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) did not drop a singles game to headline the Stevens results.
Each singles match was over in straight sets – the most games the Saxons were able to win were four at sixth singles. Bourque, Tessitore, Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.), Julia Guignard (Lowville, N.Y.), Lexie Handel (Sparta, N.J.) and Nathalie Tran (Livingston, N.J.) earned the wins for the Ducks.
The doubles results were even more lopsided. Stevens won 8-1 at ones, 8-0 at twos and 8-3 in the third matchup.
After an opening day hiccup against Nazareth College, Stevens has posted a 34-2 mark in the Empire 8 and now owns a 4-1 overall record.
The 2012 season continues as the Ducks travel to Muhlenberg College on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
