HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 29, 2012) – In a showdown of nationally ranked top 25 teams in women's soccer, No. 21 Stevens Institute of Technology dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 7 Ithaca College in an Empire 8 Conference matchup on Saturday at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Steven is now 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in the E8, while Ithaca improves to 9-0 (4-0) this year.
The Bombers outplayed the Ducks from the start of the match, putting the game-winner into the back of the net at the 9:24 mark of the first half. Ithaca was awarded a corner kick and capitalized on the chance as
Amanda Callanan found
Julie Winn on the far side of the goal.
Just ten minutes later, Stevens fell behind 2-0 on the first of two unassisted scores by
Ellen Grant-Keane. Grant-Keane netted her second tally in the 36th minute of play.
Ithaca's fourth and final goal came from the Palladino sisters,
Rachael and
Megan in the 78th minute.
Ducks' junior midfielder
Bridgette Barden (Redondo Beach, Calif.) led the team with five shots, three on goal but each attempt was turned away by Ithaca's goalkeeper
Becca Salant. The shutout marks the sixth straight for Ithaca this season.
Senior
Teegan Kelly (Charlton, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal for Stevens in all 90 minutes, falling to 3-1 on the season. Kelly stopped five shots in the game.
The Ducks will be back on the field for a non-conference game against Montclair State University on October 2 for a road contest at 7 p.m.
