HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 5, 2012) – The No. 18 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team took care of business in its season opener as the Ducks (2-1) used unassisted goals from Victor Daza (North Plainfield, N.J.), Zach Adler (McKinney, Texas) and Stephen Dunbar (Johns Creek, Ga.) to best Drew University (1-1-1) on Wednesday night.

Drew took the first shot of the night 28 seconds into the game, but the Stevens defense held the Rangers without a shot for the next 35 minutes. In that time, Daza scored the first goal of the game at the 15-minute mark. The senior dribbled into the box and was challenged by the last Drew defender who got a piece of the ball. Daza was able to spin off the check and maintain possession, however, and then put the ball in the net for the opening tally.

It was an otherwise uneventful first half, with the teams combining for just five shots.

The start of the second half, however, was quite different. Three minutes in, Daza ripped a bullet on goal that ricocheted off the Drew keeper and came right to Adler. Adler one-timed it into the back of the next for his third goal of the year.

Just 16 seconds later, Drew attempted a clear from the box; a boot that was aimed well past the midfield line. Instead, Dunbar stepped in front of it and skillfully redirected it right into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

After those opening fireworks in the second period, the Stevens defense allowed just four more shots in the final 40 minutes. Stevens goalkeeper Paul Killian (Ellicott City, Md.) made three saves to earn his first shutout of the year for the Ducks.

Stevens will next travel to NYU on Saturday for a 12 noon date with the Violets.
