ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (January 16, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team dropped a back-and-forth non-conference match to Elizabethtown College, 22-16, on Wednesday night. Stevens led 16-6 after the 165-lb. bout but dropped the final four weight classes to suffer the setback.

The Ducks took the opening bout and jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after sophomore Anthony Geiger (South Amboy, N.J.) came away with a 4-2 decision win Kyle McNulty. Elizabethtown answered back at 133 with a 4-3 decision outcome to knot the match up early at 3-3.

Elizabethtown then went ahead, 6-3, in the 141 showdown with another decision triumph before sophomore Mike Polizzi (Montville, N.J.) took down Mike Lammer, 13-0, for four points and the major decision win at 149.

Stevens held a slim 7-6 edge heading into 157-lbs.. In that bout, sophomore Conner Bass (Westhampton, N.Y.) prevailed by way of a 5-2 decision against Zach Sheridan to put the Ducks ahead by four points.

Senior Joey Favia (Brick, N.J.) gave Stevens its largest lead of the match after he pinned Woodie Hermann at 165-lbs. in 5:15. Favia is now 16-1 on the season and is currently ranked third nationally at 165.

With a 16-6 lead and the final four bouts to go, the Ducks let momentum slip away and dropped all four weight classes. Elizabethtown picked up major decision and decisions wins at 174 and 184 before the deciding bout took place at 197.

At 197, Phil Landis pinned sophomore Chris Florek (Mendham, N.J.) with just 22 seconds left in the match. Those six points put the Bluejays ahead, 19-16, and would pick up another three points in the heavyweight class for the victory.

Stevens will return to the mats on January 26 for a Centennial Conference tri-match against Muhlenberg College and McDaniel College starting at 12 p.m. The tri-match will also be Alumni Day for Stevens.
