ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (October 1, 2013) – For the first time this season, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team owns a .500 record after a 2-1 victory on the road at Eastern University on Tuesday afternoon. Stevens is now 5-5 and has won five of its last seven matches.

The Ducks went up, 1-0, in the 38th on an own goal by the Eagles. Sophomore Evelyn Ting (Gaithersburg, Md.) was a difference maker for Stevens in goal with a career-high 10 saves over 90 minutes of play. Ting made seven of her saves in the second half.

Junior Mariah Cleveland (Los Gatos, Calif.) gave Stevens a 2-0 advantage with her third goal of the season in the 56th minute off a pass from senior Lauren Hammerle (Sayville, N.Y.). Hammerle took the ball down the right side and sent a pass into the box where Cleveland was waiting to send her shot over the Eastern goalkeeper's head.

Eastern attempted a comeback with its only tally of the match just 6:41 later but could not notch an equalizer for the rest of regulation. The Eagles' best opportunity to even the score came in a four-minute span just seven minutes after their first goal. Eastern took four shots in that time with three of them saved by Ting and another blocked.

Eastern also earned six corners in the second half for a total of seven in the match, while Stevens did not attempt one.

The Ducks are back at the De Baun Athletic Complex this weekend for Homecoming against Hartwick College at 3 p.m. The women's soccer match is part of a trio of home events on De Baun, sandwiched between the men's soccer contest at 12 p.m. and field hockey at 6 p.m.
