Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Hilbert on Final Day of UVC Crossover

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (March 10, 2013) – The No. 6 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team recorded 46 kills and a .487 hitting percentage in a sweep of Hilbert College in the final United Volleyball Conference Crossover match of the season hosted by SUNY New Paltz. With the win, Stevens is now 19-6 overall and 9-1 in the UVC with one more conference match left on the schedule against New York University on March 22.

The Ducks rolled past Hilbert, 25-19, 25-16, 15-17, and every player on the team saw action in at least one set.

Junior David Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) played two sets and registered a team-best 10 kills in 16 attempts with no errors. Evans also added three digs and a block.

All three setters stepped onto the court and combined for 40 assists. Sophomore Kevin Aeckerle (Henrietta, N.Y.) handed out 16 helpers, while freshman John Eddins (Kula, Hawaii) dished out 13 and sophomore Dylan Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) added 11 more.

Offensively, eight separate players tallied three or more kills in the match. Senior Thomas Hannum (Libertyville, Ill.) and sophomore Ian Tyger (York, Pa.) were a perfect 4-for-4 in kills, while freshman Thomas Prescott-Wright (La Mesa, Calif.) posted three kills in five tries with no errors.

Junior Ryan Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) added five digs and four kills, while senior Jake Modestow (Hampden, Mass.) chipped in four total blocks. As a team, Stevens finished the match with 7.5 blocks (13 block assists and one solo).

The Ducks play again on March 20 at New Jersey City University at 7 p.m. Stevens wraps up its home schedule with the NYU match at 6 p.m. on the 22nd and then play Cairn University at 8 p.m. on the same night. On April 3, No. 2 Springfield College travels to Hoboken for the regular season home finale at 6 p.m.

Springfield is the defending national champions and has been ranked within the top two all season long according to the AVCA Top 15 poll.
