Women's Tennis Closes Out Spring with 5-4 Loss at SUNY New Paltz

– Sophomores Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) and Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.) were each double-winners as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team closed out it spring season with a tight 5-4 loss at SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday evening.
 
The Ducks still finish the academic year over .500 at 8-7 (0-3 over the spring).
 
Bourque and junior Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y) won 8-6 win at first doubles and were followed by Stewart and senior Lexie Handel (Sparta, N.J.), who won 8-4 at second doubles.  Senior Victoria Tran (South Plainfield, N.J.) and freshman Aleksandra Petelski (Hawthorne, N.J.) took the loss at third doubles, 8-1.
 
With the Ducks up 2-1 heading into the singles matches, Bourque easily dispatched her opponent at #1, 6-3, 6-0.  Stewart added another decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory at third singles, but that would be all the Ducks could muster.
 
Handel, Tran and Petelski all fell at fourth through sixth singles, with Handel falling 6-4, 6-3 at #4 while Tran and Petelski were swept 6-0, 6-0 at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.  With the overall match tied at 4-4, Tessitore came close to forcing a third set but came up just short, falling 6-4, 7-5.
