MAHWAH, N.J. (April 3, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team fell to 11-8 on the season with a 5-4 loss to No. 5/13 Ramapo College on Wednesday afternoon in Mahwah, N.J. Ramapo (14-1) dropped Stevens on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded after trailing the entire game.

The Ducks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after back-to-back RBI singles from junior Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and senior Michael Donovan (Frisco, Texas). Allen scored the final run of the frame after a double steal attempt was thrown away on a strike out to freshman Jayson Yano (Foothill Ranch, Calif.).

Allen and Donovan each went 2-for-4 in the ball game and accounted for three runs batted in. Allen also stole one base. Yano batted 1-for-4 with one steal.

Junior Curt Lowenstein (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) scored twice, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch in no official at bats.

After the Roadrunners brought the game back to a one-run difference with runs in each of their first two at bats, Stevens went back up 4-2, on another RBI base hit from Donovan in the third inning that plated Lowenstein.

Ramapo scratched out the final three runs of the contest in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings to claim victory.

Five different pitchers toed the rubber for the Ducks with sophomore Peirce Marston (Silver Spring, Md.) suffering the loss. Marston tossed 1.2 innings and gave up two hits and three walks with one earned run. He also struck out two batters.

Freshman Ryan Patterson (Staten Island, N.Y.) went the longest on the hill for Stevens with 2.2 innings pitched. Patterson struck out one and gave up an unearned run with five hits allowed. Classmate Daniel McIntyre (Lakeway, Texas) sat down two batters in an inning of work, while the third freshman, Robert Robbins (Tallahassee, Fla.) gave up two runs on three hits over 1.1 innings pitched in the start.

Junior Mark Poinsett (Ocean Gate, N.J.) threw two innings and struck out two hitters.

Stevens will take on Empire 8 Conference rival No. 28 Ithaca College this weekend for two doubleheaders. The Ducks and Ithaca will square off in four, seven-inning affairs on Saturday and Sunday.
