ITHACA, N.Y. (April 6, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team was unable to score a run over 14 innings in a doubleheader against Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon. Stevens fell to Ithaca, 4-0 and 3-0, and is now 11-10 overall this season and 2-4 in the Empire 8 Conference. Ithaca improves to 16-4 on the year.
Game One: Ithaca 4, Stevens 0
Bombers' starting pitcher Pat Lemmo tossed a complete game two-hit shutout with nine strike outs. Lemmo did not walk a hitter and faced 24 batters, three over the minimum for a seven-inning contest. Both Stevens hits were singles to third base.
Senior
Michael Donovan (Frisco, Texas) went 1-for-3 at the plate and picked up his infield hit in the second inning. Junior
Dan Allen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) also singled to third in three trips to the plate. Allen's base hit came in the seventh inning.
The Ducks only moved one base runner into scoring position in the opener.
Senior
Kevin Mathews (Jackson, N.J.) suffered the loss in 4.2 innings pitched. Mathews gave up eight hit and four earned runs with two strike outs. Freshman
Greg Jakusik (The Woodlands, Texas) tossed the other 1.1 innings in the game and struck out one batter.
Game Two: Ithaca 3, Stevens 0
The Ducks only managed two hits in the nightcap as well and were punched out 10 times in the combined shutout by Jimmy Wagner and David Jasukonis. Wagner improved to 6-0 on the season in six innings of work. He fanned seven batters and walked three before Jasukonis entered the game for the save. Jasukonis struck out the side in the seventh inning.
Sophomore
Matt Buccheri (Little Silver, N.J.) was solid on the mound with eight strike outs over 4.2 innings pitched. Buccheri allowed just two hits and walked three batters in the loss. Freshman
Ryan Patterson (Staten Island, N.Y.) did not allow a hit in the final 1.1 innings for the Ducks.
Ithaca delivered the big blow in the bottom of the first inning on a two-RBI double by Corey Caswell. Two runners reached base by way of a hit batter and walk then successfully pulled off a double steal.
Stevens will play the Bombers in another doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m.
