Hoboken, N.J. (September 18, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team improved to 6-0 overall, defeating visiting Drew University by a 9-0 final Wednesday in Hoboken.
The 9-0 victory is the third-straight by the same final for Stevens. The Ducks have won 46-of-53 total individual matches – doubles and singles combined – this season.
Junior
Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) and senior
Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) cruised at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, and junior
Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.) and junior
Elena Coineva-Lenge (Chester, N.J.) earned an 8-5 victory at second doubles.
The Rangers (0-1) forfeited third doubles as well as sixth singles, giving Stevens a 2-0 lead to start and a 4-0 lead after doubles.
Bourque rolled to a clean-sheet win at No. 1 singles against Sofia Madrigal, and Tesstiore eased past Jessica Cheng 6-1, 6-2. Stewart downed Deanna Williams 7-5, 6-1 in the third slot, with Cocineva-Lenge earning a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4. Freshman
Jillian Morneau (Beverly, Mass.) went 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles to close out the competition on the day.
Of the seven matches played, the Ducks won 87 points and only dropped 25.
The Ducks will take the weekend to practice and return to action with a home match September 25 at 4 p.m. vs. Muhlenberg.
