HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 7, 2013)
– The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team looked to be in control throughout the game but fell to Kean University, 3-0, on Saturday evening.

Stevens drops to 1-2 with the loss, while Kean stays perfect at 4-0.

Kean came out firing, ripping five shots and winning four penalty corners before Stevens could get off its first attempt, but by then the damage had been done as the Cougars got on the board in the ninth minute when senior midfielder Korri Thompson (Somerville, N.J.) beat her defender and smacked the ball into the goal for the 1-0 lead.

The Ducks quickly picked up their play, going on to outshoot the Cougars, 9-7, and force three saves of sophomore goalkeeper Katie DiCarlo (Shamong, N.J.) in the first half.  Stevens could not punch one through, however, while Kean added two more in the second half, with Thompson scoring the first and assisting on the second.

Senior defender Megan Traub (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) smacked 11 shots, four of which were on target and several more blocked on penalty corner attempts.  Freshman goalkeeper Emily Stukenborg (Stockholm, N.J.) made three saves in net, while DiCarlo managed five saves for the Cougars.

The Ducks will look to bounce back next week when they host Empire 8 Athletic Conference foe Washington and Jefferson College (2-1) on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
