UTICA, N.Y. (September 7, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team swept Empire 8 Athletic Conference rival Utica College, 8-0, in a rain-shortened match on Saturday morning.
The Ducks improve to 2-0 on the season and in the conference, while Utica drops to 0-3 with a pair of losses in the conference.
Stevens swept the doubles matches in quick succession. Juniors
Danielle Stewart (North Plainfield, N.J.) and
Elena Cocineva-Lenge (Chester, N.J.) swept second doubles, 8-0, and were followed by freshman
Lily Bruenjes (Portland, Maine) and sophomore
Arden Servidio (Nutley, N.J.), who won 8-1 at third doubles, and junior
Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) and senior
Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.), who took first doubles, 8-3.
Bourque and Stewart quickly swept their matches at first and third singles, respectively, and were soon followed by Tessitore at second singles (6-0, 6-1) and freshman
Jillian Morneau (Beverly, Mass.) at sixth singles (6-2, 6-0). Servidio picked up the final point at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-1, while Cocineva-Lenge was leading, 6-0, 1-0 at fourth singles before rain stopped the match.
