LIVE STREAMHOBOKEN, N.J. (November 6, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team will look to continue its run of dominance over the Empire 8 Conference this weekend when it hosts the conference championship starting tomorrow.
The two day, four team tournament will take place at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken.
CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE The top seeded Ducks (12-3-1, 7-0) will host No. 4 Alfred University (9-7-2, 3-3-1) at 1 p.m. tomorrow to start things off, followed by No. 2 Ithaca College (5-7-3, 5-1-1) and No. 3 Utica College (7-8-3, 4-3) at 4 p.m. Saturday's final will pit the two Friday winners in a 3 p.m. match.
MEET THE DUCKS Despite being limited to just nine starts this season due to nagging injuries, junior
Carson Pryor led the Ducks with 10 goals and 23 points. Junior
Joe Cellitti sits second with six goals and is tied with junior
Colin Phillips with 13 points. Sophomore
Jay Mikula is the team leader in assists with four.
Anchoring the defense this fall has been senior
Quinn Conner, freshman
Patrick Boylan, and junior
Harrison Kane, all of whom have started all 16 games for the Ducks. In goal, sophomore
Mike Renna has made 47 saves and recorded seven shutouts in his first season as the starter.
STEVENS VS. THE FIELD The Ducks have beaten all three teams in the field this season by a combined score of 7-0 including a 4-0 rout over Alfred in their last home game on Oct. 25. Ithaca was the only team to keep the score within one goal.
DUCK DEFENSE The Stevens defense has allowed just 10 goals all season to lead the conference behind a goals against average of 0.63. The next closest team in the field is Utica with a 1.50 goals against average followed by Ithaca at 1.53. In goal, Renna has the highest save percentage in the conference at .831.
The Ducks have yet to allow a goal in conference this season.
DUCK DYNASTY Since joining the Empire 8 prior to the 2007 season, Stevens has won the conference championship every season. The last conference team to beat the Ducks was Elmira College in 2009.
