BRUNSWICK, Maine (April 27, 2014) – Sophomore Matthew Heinrich pulled-out a big win at first singles Sunday against No. 12 Bowdoin College, but the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team dropped the match 8-1.

With the loss, Stevens ends its regular season at 11-11 while Bowdoin moved to 10-8. The match marked the eighth time that the Ducks have faced a nationally ranked opponent this spring.

Bowdoin seized control of the match early with a doubles sweep. Heinrich and freshman Brett Derrington teamed together for the first time at first doubles in an 8-1 loss to senior Sam King and sophomore Luke Trinka before the freshman team of Michael Feldman and Charles Drake dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 2 to juniors Noah Bragg and Kyle Singer.

Bowdoin completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3 for senior Chris Lord and sophomore Chase Savage over sophomores Tyler Tisdale and Ben Foran. The loss is just the second of the year for the Stevens duo.

Stevens lost at fourth singles before Bowdoin clinched the match at No. 3 for King over Feldman 6-3, 6-1. Senior Peter Davis continued the win streak with a 7-5. 6-2 win at No. 6 over Tisdale, followed by a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 for freshman Hugh Mo over freshman Antonio Perich.

Foran dropped a close match in a second-set tiebreaker at No. 2 to the region's No. 10 player in sophomore Luke Trinka, but Heinrich got the Ducks a point with a hard-fought battle at No. 1 against junior Noah Bragg, the No. 8 ranked singles player in the northeast. Heinrich took the first set in a tiebreaker, and after dropping the second 6-2, rallied to take the third in another tiebreaker.

The win was Heinrich's team-leading eighteenth of the season.

"Overall this was a good trip for us," head coach Steve Gachko said. "It was great to see Heinrich pull out a big win over Bragg and we battled well throughout the rest of the lineup."
