ALFRED, N.Y. (October 10, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team picked-up a crucial 2-1 Empire 8 Conference win over Alfred University Saturday, extending the team's unbeaten streak to nine.
The win moved Stevens' record to 9-1-2 (2-0-2), while Alfred fell to 8-2-2 (2-1-1).
Senior
Carson Pryor and junior
Patrick Masur provided the Ducks scoring with one goal each, while junior keeper
Mike Renna made one save in goal. As a team, the Ducks dominated in shots by a margin of 22-6.
The Ducks offense provided some punch early with three shots on goal over the first 15 minutes, before finally being rewarded in minute 21. After Alfred's keeper charged-out of the net to make a play on the ball, Pryor flicked the ball over his head to give Stevens the early lead.
The goal was Pryor's team-leading 11th of the season.
Stevens continued its pressure through the remainder of the half, and into the second before Masur extended the lead in the 59th minute off a cross from senior
Joe Cellitti. The goal was Masur's second, while the assist was Cellitti's third in as many games.
Alfred answered with a goal 10 minutes later to cut the Stevens lead to one, however it's as close as they would get the rest of the afternoon as the Ducks defense held the Saxons to just one shot over the final 22 minutes to seal the win.
The Ducks will return home Wednesday with a 7 p.m. match against the Merchant Marine Academy.
