Tobin Records 1000th Career Kill In E8 Victory

HOBOKEN, N.J. (OCTOBER 2, 2015) – Junior Mary Tobin became the fifth student-athlete in Stevens women's volleyball program history to reach 1000 career kills as the Ducks topped Utica College in straight sets Friday.
 
The Ducks moved their record to 9-8 with set scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-16. The Pioneers are now 2-16.
 
Stevens never trailed in the first set, tallying 15 of the first 21 points. Utica closed the gap to eight at 19-11, but the Ducks rolled off five of the final six points to claim victory. The Pioneers hung tough with Stevens in the second stanza, even knotting the period at eight, but a 6-0 Duck run silenced the Pioneers. A kill by junior Christina Sciarra ended the second set and put the home team up 2-0.
 
Tobin hit the mark with in the third set to put the Ducks up 5-4 and helped push Stevens further in front. Utica cut the Stevens lead to six points, but the Ducks scored six of the last eight points to seal the victory.
 
Senior Catie Shelton handed out 25 assists while sophomore Sydni Horner inched closer to 1,000 career digs by tallying 12, leaving her 13 short of the mark. Tobin hit .429 with 15 kills and six digs with Sciarra notching 10 kills, three service aces and six digs.
 
Lora Allen had 18 assists and Nicole Herringshaw recorded seven kills for the Pioneers.
 
The Ducks are back in action tomorrow when they take on Western Connecticut State University and Marietta College at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively at the Stevens Invitational.
