Men’s Soccer Falls To Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (October 20, 2015) – The No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer saw its 11-match unbeaten streak snapped Tuesday in 1-0 road loss to Rutgers University-Newark.

The Ducks fell to 11-2-2 with the loss, while R-N moved to 13-4-1.

Junior keeper Mike Renna made five saves in net, while junior Jay Mikula led the Ducks with two shots on goal. The stops catapulted Renna past the 100-save mark for his career.

As a team, the Ducks tallied five corners and eight shots.

Both teams traded shots over the first 15 minutes without any success before Renna's diving stop in the 22nd minute kept the match locked in a 0-0 draw. Stevens had its best scoring opportunity with freshman Andrew Masur's one-timer header in the 40th, however the ball bounced off the crossbar and over the net.

R-N answered the threat less than a minute later, connecting on a header off a set-piece to give the Scarlet Raiders the 1-0 lead heading into the break.

The slim advantage proved to be enough however as Stevens' two second-half shots both went wide, denying the Ducks the opportunity to gain the equalizing goal.

The Ducks will conclude their three-match road swing Friday when they travel to Utica College for a 4 p.m. game.
