Field Hockey Edges Oneonta On Senior Day

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 24, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey junior Nolie Prouty scored two goals Saturday to lead the Ducks to a 4-3, non-conference win over SUNY-Oneonta in Hoboken.

The win moved Stevens to 10-7, while Oneonta fell to 5-10.

Prouty led all scorers with two goals, while sophomores Victoria Alvarez and Cassidy O'Hearn chipped-in with Stevens' other two goals. Senior Felecia Heard set a career-high with five saves in 52 minutes of action.

As a team, the Ducks outshot Oneonta 21-11, including a 13-9 margin in shots on goal. 

After trading shots through the first 29 minutes, the Ducks gained the first half lead with Alvarez's goal in the 30th. Off a feed from senior Erin Silvestri, Alvarez fired the ball off the goalie's feet into the cage for the score. 

The goal was Alvarez's ninth of the season, while the assist was Silvestri's second.

O'Hearn brought the lead two with an unassisted score in the final minute of the half, however Oneonta rallied in the second with their first goal in minute 45, followed by the equalizer five minutes after that. The Ducks were able to respond in the 55th minute however with a pair of scores from Prouty. 

After her first shot ricocheted off the goalie's pads, Prouty followed-up with the rebound, sending it to the back of the cage for her sixth goal of the season. The junior followed-suit six minutes later with another off junior Taylor Welch's corner, putting the Ducks up two with 10 minutes to play.

Oneonta was able to respond again with a goal in the 67th, however the rally wasn't enough as the Ducks defense ended their scoring chances for the remainder of regulation to seal the win.

The Ducks will conclude the road portion of their regular season schedule Wednesday when they travel to William Paterson University for a 7 p.m. game.
