HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 3, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to seven Saturday with a crucial 1-0 win over Ithaca College in Hoboken.
The win moved Stevens to 7-1-2 (1-0-2), while Ithaca fell to 2-6-1 (2-1-0).
Senior
Harrison Kane provided the Ducks offense with a goal early in the first, while junior keeper
Mike Renna made three saves in net for his fourth shutout of the season. With his performance, Renna also amassed the 90-save plateau for this career.
As a team, the Ducks outshot Ithaca 11-4, and won the corner-kick battle 5-2.
The Ducks offense came out firing with five shots over the first 12 minutes before being rewarded with a goal in minute 12. Off a short pass in the box from senior
Joe Cellitti, Kane unleashed a shot into the top right corner for the score.
The goal was the first of the season for the Stevens senior.
Ithaca responded with shots on goal less than two minutes later, however Renna made the save on both to keep Stevens in the lead heading into the break.
Stevens' defense took over in the second, holding Ithaca shot-less over the first 20 minutes, before senior
Jeff Althoff narrowly missed padding the lead with a header late in regulation that bounced off the post. The lead proved to be enough however as the Ducks held the Bombers shot-less over the final 20 minutes to clinch the win.
The Ducks will return to action Wednesday with a 3 p.m. match at Manhattanville College.
