Phillips And Pryor Provide The Scoring In Men’s Soccer Win

PURCHASE, N.Y. (October 7, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer seniors Carson Pryor and Colin Phillips each scored a goal Wednesday to lead the Ducks to a 2-0 road win over Manhattanville College.

The win moved Stevens' record to 8-1-2, while Manhattanville fell to 6-5-1 with the loss.

The Ducks out-shot the Valiants 10-7, and recorded six corner-kicks to Manhattanville's one. Junior Mike Renna made two saves in net for his fifth shutout of the season.

The shutout was the second in-a-row for the Ducks, extending their scoreless streak to 209 minutes. Stevens has now allowed just two goal over the last six matches.

After trading some early shots in the opening 13 minutes, the Ducks took control of the match with unanswered offensive pressure that culminated with a pair of corners and shots, each of which were snuffed-out by Manhattanville's defense.

The Valiants keeper continued to keep the Ducks off the board with a pair of saves in the closing eight minutes of the first half, before Stevens' pressure was rewarded early in the second. Off a left side cross from senior Matteo Sturla, Phillips unleashed a header into the back of the net for the score.

The goal was Phillips' sixth of the season, while the assist was Sturla's first.

Manhattanville answered with four shots during an 11 minute span midway through the half, however Renna and the Ducks defense combated each situation, allowing the Ducks to put the game away in the 79th minute.

Off a cross from senior Joe Cellitti, Pryor fired a shot to the right-side post for his team-leading 10th goal of the season. The lead was more than enough for the Ducks as the defense held Manhattanville shot-less over the final 10 minutes to seal the win.

The Ducks will return to Empire 8 Conference play Saturday with a 3 p.m. match at Alfred University.
