Field Hockey Falls To New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (October 7, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team fell to No. 19 SUNY-New Paltz, 4-1 Wednesday in non-conference action.

The loss dropped Stevens to 7-5, while New Paltz moved to 10-2.

Junior Nolie Prouty provided the Ducks offense with a goal, while junior Emily Stukenborg made a season-high 14 saves in the cage.

After a scoreless opening 12 minutes, the Ducks threatened with a pair of shots that were both saved by New Paltz goalie Alayna Wageman. Stevens continued its pressure with penalty corners from senior Dailyn Brook, but New Paltz extinguished the threat before breaking through with a goal in the 16th minute.

The Hawks extended the lead five minutes later to take a two-goal lead into the break, however the Ducks were able to answer in the opening minute of the second. Controlling the ball in traffic, Prouty fired on the right side of the cage for her fourth goal of the season, and tenth of her career.

The scoring would be all the Ducks would muster however, as New Paltz responded with a goal in the 44th minute, before putting the game away for good with a score five minutes later.

The Ducks will continue their five-game road swing with a Saturday game against Nazareth College.
