HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 18, 2015) – Four different players hit double-figure scoring for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team Wednesday in a 92-77, home-opening win over Kean University.
The win moved Stevens to 2-1, while Kean fell to 0-3.
Junior
Evan Klimchak led all scorers with 28 points off 7-for-11 shooting, while junior
Patrick Barron and sophomore
Chris Cosgrove chipped-in with 21 and 13 points respectively. Senior
Alex Lorenz scored 17 points with 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
The double-digit scoring efforts were the third in as many games for both Klimchak and Barron.
As a team, the Ducks out-rebounded Kean 50-46 while shooting 77 percent from the free throw line. The Stevens defense also forced 14 Kean turnovers.
After going back-and-forth over the first 10 minutes, the Ducks gained some separation from a five point lead with a 7-3 run to go up nine with nine minutes to go. A Klimchak layup brought the lead to 10 before the Ducks closed the half with three straight points to build a 20-point advantage going into the half.
Two-straight Cosgrove layups to open the second ballooned the lead to a game-high 24, however Kean was able to chip-away to cut their deficit to 12 with seven minutes remaining.
That's as close as they would get the rest of the night though as Stevens answered with a 6-0 run scored all by Barron, to send the Ducks to the comfortable 15-point win.
The Ducks will continue their home-stand Saturday when they host Drew University at 2 p.m. at Canavan Arena.
