Balanced Scoring Keys Double-Digit Win For Men’s Basketball

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 21, 2015) – Six different players scored in double-figures Saturday in the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team's 118-110 win over Drew University.

The third straight win brought the Ducks record to 3-1, while Drew fell to 1-2 with the loss.

Junior Evan Klimchak matched a career-high with 30 points to lead all scorers, while junior Patrick Barron and senior Alex Lorenz contributed 25 and 15 points respectively. Freshman Ryan Coffey tallied 14 points with 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.

As a team, the Ducks shot an impressed 56 percent from the field, 67 percent from three, and 88 percent from the line, while forcing 11 Drew turnovers. Additionally, the 21 three-pointers made set a new program record.

A 12-4 run keyed by five from Barron and Klimchak to open the game put the Ducks up eight early, however Drew chipped away before connecting on the game-tying three with 11 minutes remaining in the half. Drew took the lead on the next possession with another three before Klimchak provided the answer with the equalizer 30 seconds after that.

Drew gained control of the game from there, building an eight point lead with just over three minutes remaining. Stevens was once again able to respond however, closing the half on a 7-2 run to pull within two heading into the break.

Klimchak put the Ducks ahead with a three early in the second before Stevens put-together an 11-0 run to go up 13 with just over 12 minutes remaining. A layup from freshman Kevin Florio followed by a pair of free throws from Coffey extended the lead 19 until a three from junior Thomas Ahern made it 88-68 midway through the half.

Drew responded with a small run of its own to get within 14 with five minutes to go, however it's as close as they would get the rest of the afternoon as Stevens responded with an 8-2 run to put the game away for good.

The Ducks will play their final home game of 2015 Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham.
